 I know she watches everything I do

Her shadow shows up in the blackest rooms

And when she asks you how I’m doing

I hope you tell her life’s improving

Now that she is no longer my burden

And when she tells her friends and family

That I’m the one who ruined everything

I hope she recalls what she did

I did my best to mend this

Now she lurks by my fences

That I put up to keep her out

She’s always been the villain

These thoughts are brewing deep inside my head

I can’t escape, so here I sit instead

I hope that every waking moment

She knows that I’m the bigger woman

I would never lead on innocents

And when she says that she can’t stand me

I am the one that she called family

When there was no one else who did

I did my best to mend this

Now she lurks by my fences

That I put up to keep you out

She’s always been the villain
