W A R
WAR
Written by Catherine Vartain-Frilund
It was a war
The pendulum swung both ways
Keeping count of all our transgressions
We’ve come so far
There’s no letting fate sink its teeth into us
We take back control of the wheel
And the battleships are battered at the dock
We emerge from raging fire at the top
And love can never triumph without loss
Learning a lot
Closing the gap
Resting my head in your lap
Exposing our demons
Though the rest of the world might see them
And all of it’s been for love
I promised this
That I’d stand beside you through all
To the death. Now victory is ours
We prayed, we blessed
And wiped our blades clean on the grass
Knowing they never will know how it feels
And the battleships are battered at the dock
We emerge from raging fire at the top
And love can never triumph without loss
Learning a lot
Closing the gap
Resting my head in your lap
Exposing our demons
Though the rest of the world might see them
And all of it’s been for love
We knew the warning signs
Across the ocean you heard my siren cries
I took a gamble on every part of my life
If it was only up to us we knew we’d thrive
But through distance and resistance we survived
And now I rest my soldiers
And I thank god that it’s over
And we cross over the border
And establish rightful order
And now I rest my soldiers
And I thank god that it’s over
And we cross over the border
And establish rightful order
And the battleships are battered at the dock
We emerge from raging fire at the top
And love can never triumph without loss
Learning a lot
Closing the gap
Resting my head in your lap
Exposing our demons
Though the rest of the world might see them
And all of it’s been for love
